Commercial Head/Director - Food Retail

Must have USA based food Retail (#supermarket or #hypermarket) commercial experience
Lead, engage and supervise yearly #category business review and procurement budget planning and control exercise. Capitalizing on actual business performance and predicting future trends, developing strategies to cater for the upcoming business needs/ opportunities.
Accountable for achieving budgeted sales and profitability, stock turns, distress & markdowns.
Lead, monitor stock management activities, giving proper direction on category deliverables, highlighting deviations and communicating corrective measures.
Cascade down through Scorecard and deploy to the different products, category clusters, and ensure all employee involvement and commitment.
Meet with the GM to update on the operating performance of the department on a regular basis.
Liaise with other departments to ensure excellent internal communications.
Develop, maintain and implement procurement policies and procedures
Develop and manage the execution of departmental strategies and plans based on corporate vision, mission, values, and objectives.
Support all reporting managers by providing mentoring, coaching, advice and ensuring effective personal development.
Oversee the recruitment of staff for the Purchasing/Commercial Department.
Monitor and appraise all reporting staff through planned objective setting and targets.
Continuously seek direct business trading with suppliers i.e. cutting down distributors, help growing company profitability.
Develop and maintain strategic business relations with local and international suppliers, alliances based on mutual benefits
for both, helping a healthy growth for the company.
Engage influences and operates as a leadership team member in setting overall company direction and strategy.
Lead continuous category(s) development i.e. predicts future business opportunities in the aim of maximizing products and
services sales and profitability.
Lead, supervise yearly supplier contract negotiations giving direction to #buying the team in the aim of improving all
commercial binding terms (front Margins, back margins, additional funding, payment terms, stock rotation, price
Build a private label/ imports strategy, actively engage with key category managers visiting trade shows in order to establish a
strong imports base.
Effectively contribute to the formulation of marketing initiatives calendar. This involves marketing and buying teams
working on consolidating future business trends and company communication and growth strategy.
Work closely with the finance director to ensure proper allocation of funds and full alignment on procurement financials.
Direct, manage markdown budget work closely with operations managers to ensure timely depletion of all dormant stocks
